Nursing & Biomedical Articles/Research

    Search for nursing and allied health literature by topic.
  • Proquest Nursing and Allied Health Literature
    Database covering the literature of nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine, and much more. Also includes more than 15,700 full text dissertations representing the most rigorous scholarship in nursing and related fields.
  • PubMed
    Search for biomedical articles by topic. Main emphasis is on medicine, but also covers a lot of the nursing and healthcare management literature as well. This customized PubMed link shows you icons for articles available to you through Summa Medical Library.
  • Health Source: Nursing / Academic Edition
    Covers nursing and allied health. Provides access to full-text articles from approximately 550 journals and indexes articles from 850 journals. However, the breadth of coverage of the nursing literature is not as extensive CINAHL.
  • Clinical Key
    Searchable database containing e-books, full text journal articles, and much more. Primary focused on medicine
  • National Guidelines Clearinghouse
    Created by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Large collection of guideline summaries from various issuing bodies. Summaries are extensively detailed. If the full guideline is available online, a link to it will be provided toward the end of the summary under Guideline Availability.
  • MedLinePlus
    Consumer health website produced by National Library of Medicine. Information posted on the site is authoritative and up to date - utilizing sources from entities such as the National Institutes of Health and other trusted organizations. Provides extensive information on over 950 diseases and conditions. Also includes wellness information, a medical dictionary and encyclopedia, drug information, videos of surgical procedures and much more.
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
    Covers topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry, psychology, and related subjects. World's largest full text psychology database offering full text for over 530 journals.
  • PsycINFO
    American Psychological Association's database of abstracts of journal articles, book chapters, dissertations. Indexes around 2500 periodicals.
  • Academic Search Complete
    An index containing references & abstracts (some with full text) for scholarly journals in a broad range of academic disciplines.

Cultural Competency Resources

The Summa Medical Library has a few print books on cultural competency that can be borrowed.  Ask a librarian for help in finding them.

Evidence-Based Practice: Step-by-Step

  • AJN's Series of Articles on Evidence-Based Practice
    Award-winning series of articles on the steps of evidence-based practice from developing a clinical question to sustaining a change in practice. CE credit available until July 31, 2017. Articles are listed in reverse order, so scroll down to the bottom to see the first article in the series.

Off-Site Access to Information Resources

For Clinical Key: Obtain registration ID from library.  Allows you to create your own username and password for logging in from off campus.  Off-site access is NOT available to students.

For R2 Digital Library: While on-campus, go to the R2 Digital Library website (click here) and create your own username and password for logging in from off campus. Off-site access is NOT available to students.

For Other Databases and Journals:

  • Enter your name and library ID (contact library if you don't know your library ID)
  • If asked to select your institution, choose Northeast Ohio College of Medicine (NEOMED)
  • If asked to select your branch, choose Summa Health System Akron City
  • Students need to obtain a library ID through their educational institution.

Please Note: Some databases and journals are simply not available from off-site.
